iPhone 4 available on 3 – best deal around

The Apple iPhone 4 is available from today in 3 shops for £99 and £30 a month for 500 mins, 5000 txt and 1GB internet.

That’s a price that beats any of the competition.

Sadly it’s only available in 3 Shops at the moment (not through the website) and their staff are actually worse than the call centre. 3 are a brilliant network as long as you don’t need to speak to anyone.

New Look BBC News website

The BBC have today launched a new look News website. Looks more modern, but I’m not sure if I like it? I think the top menu is too small and squashed compared with the rest of the design.

They have finally put facebook like, or in their case recommend, buttons onto the news articles. Which I guess means they’re not planning to do their own social website anymore.

Visa deadline for e-commerce compliance is tomorrow!

PCI SSC image

From tomorrow (1st July) all online retailers that process less than 20’000 transactions a year must have basic Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI DSS) compliance.

If the online shop doesn’t then Visa will increase the processing fees or possibly stop the merchant from being able to accept Visa cards (which are often the most popular card used).

And from 30th September all MasterCard transactions and sites processing over 20’000 transactions must be compliant!

Not only could a merchant face higher charges, but a data security breach following non compliance can result in massive costs & fines. It could be up to £1 million for a compromise of just a 1’000 customer’s credit or debit card details by the time the card replacement costs, fraud costs, charge-back fees, investigation charge and fine for the security breach are all taken into account.

The Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council that develop the DSS have more information on their site, and there are online tools to test and monitor compliance such as Security Metrics.

We Love Apple

Adobe Flash - We Love Apple

We love creativity. We love innovation. We love apps. We love the web. We love Flash. We love our 3 million developers. We love healthy competition. We love touch screens. We love our Open Screen Project partners. We love HTML5. We love authoring code only once. We love all devices. We love all platforms.

What we don’t love is anybody taking away your freedom to choose what you create, how you create it, and what you experience on the web.

iPhone 4G to go on immediate sale on June 7th

The iPhone 4G (aka iPhone HD or iPhone 4.0) will go on sale the day of its announcement, which will be at the WWDC on 7th June 2010.

The Apple Worldwide Developer Conference is held in San Fran 7 – 11the June, and is where Apple has launched the last 2 iPhones.

The change this year will be its immediate availability, compared to previous years where the iPhone hasn’t gone on sale until several weeks after the launch.

I suspect it may only be for sale in the US on the 7th June though.

In the UK it’s expected to go on sale through O2 first, and keep your eye on their website for any accidental leaks :o) It probably wont be available immediately on the other networks, Vodafone and Orange, who will just have the old 3GS for sale.

HP to buy Palm beating HTC and Dell

Hewlett Packard have announced they are to purchase Palm the maker of the Pre smart phone.

There have been lots of rumours recently, and most of them centred on HTC buying Palm, and planning to release it’s own mobile phone operating system. But also in the picture has been Dell, and more recently Palm have been saying they’re not for sale.

The sale is expected to complete in the next 3 months.

I don’t think this is going to have much impact on the iPhone / Android / Windows Phone 7 market, and recently Dell have announced their own Windows Phone 7 mobiles which makes a lot more sense.

iPhone 4G to be called iPhone HD

Reports are circling that the next iPhone originally due in a few weeks time is to be called the iPhone HD now instead of iPhone 4G … this probably has something to do with the delayed rollout of 4G by AT&T (the US network that has the exclusive rights on the iPhone).

Windows Mobile App Store (Windows Phone Marketplace)

Loving the app store for Windows Mobile, it’s about time! And for the new Windows Phone 7, Microsoft have already announced that the Apps will only be available through Marketplace.

My favourite app so far (other than the essential Google Maps, Skype, Office Communicator) is TubeRun which shows you the London Underground service boards and live departure information.

Check out this video of Marketplace…

Search Google for “Britney on PS3”

Chatting on Facebook about the PlayStation 3 Vidzone that says there is no match for Britney Spears … and just seems to play Steps, George Michael, and Whitney Houston (it’s an old video from when she could sing without getting out of breath).

So I innocently did a search for Britney on PS3 and up pops lots of pages about guessing when she’ll die to win a PS3. I was really taken aback as I’ve never seen this before. So I thought I’d add to it by posting this.

I’ll go for February 7th 2013 (would have chosen later but the PS3 won’t be worth much by the time of her actual death).

iPhone 4G launch in June?

image

My Windows mobile is really playing up and I’ve been thinking of making the switch to iPhone for a while.

The problem is Apple seem to always release a new mobile phone in June / July …

  • June 29th 2007 – iPhone
  • July 11th 2008 – iPhone 3G
  • June 17th 2009 – iPhone 3GS
  • June 23rd 2010 – iPhone 4G release date ?

And then of cause there is Windows Phone 7. I do like windows mobile (when it works), but there just aren’t enough apps, but then with Marketplace that might change.

Or I could just get a 3GS tomorrow and not worry about it.

The new HTC Magic with Google

The new Google phone HTC Magic has been launched and it looks great! I just hope it has enough processing power unlike previous HTC's which are really unstable, crash and lock-up a lot!!!

Here is the blurb that came with the video... "Everything you love about the internet, exactly how you want it. The HTC Magic™ will keep you entertained and up to date wherever you are. Sleek, stylish and exclusive to Vodafone, the Magic is powered by cutting edge technology. So web essentials like Google Maps™ and Google Search™ work brilliantly. You can create shortcuts to your favourite sites and download fun games, news feeds and widgets. Then decide where everything goes - so you can get to it all easily. Love putting friends in the picture? The HTC Magic's 3.2 megapixel camera shoots photos in sharp focus. You can admire the results on its extra large high-resolution screen. Or upload your photos for your friends to see - with superfast internet, they'll upload in a flash."
